Economic Development

Kelly Robertson-Slagle, business retention specialist, is responsible for promoting and facilitating the retention of small business and other economic enterprises in the county, visiting the local business community to assess business needs, monitor and document progress, and coordinate the provision of specific local state and federal resources where applicable. Ms. Robertson-Slagle holds a B.S. degree in marketing from the University of Maryland. She has completed numerous continuing education courses through the International Economic Development Council. Prior to joining the department, Ms. Robertson-Slagle was director of the Maryland Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Southern Region. She also served as director of government/member relations with the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland and business development specialist with the Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development. Ms. Robertson-Slagle has over 15 years of experience in business analysis, marketing, grant writing, program management and technical assistance. In addition, Ms. Robertson-Slagle has extensive experience in working with new and expanding businesses, cultivating relationships between counties and business community, economic development agencies, and state and regional agencies. She is a graduate and current board member of Leadership Southern Maryland. She is also a member of the Maryland Economic Development Association, the International Economic Development Council and Northeastern Economic Developers Association. She is a former executive board member of the Patuxent Partnership and the Southern Maryland Workforce Investment Board.
