Helpful Tips for Charter Boating page title

For more information, contact the Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Weather Policy
The Captain will always make the final determination whether a boat will sail. Late departures or early returns may also be necessary. Please ask your Captain when scheduling your trip about policies relating to the forfeiture of your deposit.

Drugs & Contraband
No illegal drugs or contraband are allowed on the premises, including the marina. If the Captain suspects a party possesses any controlled substance, the Captain will immediately return to the marina or dock and the party will forfeit all moneys due for the trip.

Catch
It is generally the policy that the "catch" belongs to the charter party. Please respect our natural resources and take only the amount of fish you will use.

What to Bring
For a truly enjoyable adventure, you should bring suitable clothes, soft-sole shoes, food/beverage, sunscreen, camera & a cooler to take your fish home. All fishing equipment & safety devices are furnished by the Captain. You do NOT need a fishing license while sport fishing on a charter boat with a licensed Captain.

Weigh-In
The charter dock is the official Maryland weigh-in station. Please inform the Captain if you want to "weigh-in" for a State of Maryland Citation.

Fish Cleaning
Many Captains have available fish cleaning stations or mates to clean your catch for you. You should decide how you want your catch divided and packaged. Price for fish cleaning is NOT included in the cost of the trip.

Tipping
The mate works for tips. While at your discretion, the average tip for a mate is between 10-15% of the cost of the trip.
