Join us this year for three exceptional exhibits: 100-year celebration of scouting featuring Maryland's first permanent Boy Scouts camp, "Camp Theodore Roosevelt;" 100th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the Town of North Beach; and the Celebration of Captain John Smith the Explorer which showcases the recent acquisition of a copy of Captain John Smith's journal.

Directions: Route 4 to Chesapeake Beach Road (MD 260). Proceed 5 miles to Chesapeake Beach. Turn left onto Chesapeake Avenue (MD 261). Turn left onto 9th Street. Turn right onto Dayton Avenue.

Admission: Free.

Linden

Historic Linden, built around 1868 and located in the Prince Frederick historic district, is the home of the Calvert County Historical Society (CCHS). CCHS offers a research library that continues to grow in volume and diversity Family papers describing first-person accounts of historical events, wills, family Bibles, original manuscripts, photographs, published histories, maps and recorded interviews allow researchers to examine how the county has changed over time. The society's Calvert County African American Archives provides resources featuring African Americans throughout the county's rich history.

Directions: Route 4 to Church Street. Turn left into gravel driveway before Trinity United Methodist Church to white house.

Admission: Free.

Calvert Marine Museum

In the only museum on the East Coast that is home to two lighthouses, rich maritime history and diversity of life in the Chesapeake Bay come alive. See skates and rays, models, paintings, woodcarvings, aquariums, fossils and boats. Outdoor exhibits include a boat basin, river otter habitat and a recreated salt marsh.

Admission: Adults $7.
Seniors 55+ and AAA members $6.
Children 5-12 $2.
Children under 5 and Calvert Marine Museum Society members free.

Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum

The Museum shares the story of the Chesapeake Beach Railway and Amusement Park in the early 20th century. Photos and artifacts. The Museum building is the only surviving station from the old Railway and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Directions: Route 4 south to Chesapeake Beach Road (MD 260). Proceed 5 miles to Chesapeake Beach. Turn right onto Bayside Road (MD 261). Railway Museum is on left at Mears Avenue

J.C. Lore and Sons Oyster House

Visit this restored 1934 seafood-packing house to learn about the boom and decline of the region's commercial seafood industries. The exhibits explore all aspects of oyster processing - from receiving oysters at the dock to storing, shucking, washing, packing and shipping the product to markets across the region. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Directions: Route 4 to Solomons Island. Oyster House is on left.

Experience, discover, learn and have fun at JPPM. Over 70 archaeological sites have been identified on the property, reflecting over 12,000 years of human occupation. Tour exhibits in the visitor center and exhibit barn, browse the gift shop, hike miles of trails, discover the Indian village, launch a canoe or kayak, or just enjoy the beautiful views.

Also on the grounds is the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, a state-of-the-art archaeological research, conservation and curation facility. The lab also houses a number of major collections acquired through private donation to the Maryland Historical Trust. All of these collections are available for research, education, and exhibit purposes to students, scholars, museum curators, and educators.

Old Wallville School

Old Wallville School

Built in the early 1880s, the school is the oldest standing one-room schoolhouse for African American students in Calvert County. Offering education for grades 1 through 7, it was built in the early 1880s and remained in use until 1934. Located on the grounds of Calvert Elementary School.

Directions: Route 4 south to Dares Beach Road. Calvert Elementary School is on the left.

One-Room Schoolhouse

One Room Schoolhouse

Port Republic School No. 7 has been in this shady grove for more than 100 years. Authentically preserved, the schoolhouse is filled with memorabilia.

Directions: Route 4 south to Broomes Island Road (MD 264). Proceed approximately .25 mile. Turn left at Christ Church. The Schoolhouse is located on the grounds of Christ Church.

Admission: Free.

Hours: May and June: Sunday 2 - 4 p.m.
August 25: 2 - 4 p.m.
Special visits may be arranged.
