Join us this year for three exceptional exhibits: 100-year celebration of scouting featuring Maryland's first permanent Boy Scounts camp, "Camp Theodore Roosevelt;" 100th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the Town of North Beach; and the Celebration of Captain John Smith the Explorer which showcases the recent acquisition of a copy of Captain John Smith's journal.

Route 4 to Chesapeake Beach Road (MD 260). Proceed 5 miles to Chesapeake Beach. Turn left onto Chesapeake Avenue (MD 261). Turn left onto 9th Street. Turn right onto Dayton Avenue.

In the only museum on the East Coast that is home to two lighthouses, rich maritime history and diversity of life in the Chesapeake Bay come alive. See skates and rays, models, paintings, woodcarvings, aquariums, fossils and boats. Outdoor exhibits include a boat basin, river otter habitat and a recreated salt marsh.

The Museum shares the story of the Chesapeake Beach Railway and Amusement Park in the early 20th century. Photos and artifacts show summer crowds enjoying the beach and rides on the railroad. The Museum building is the only surviving station from the old Railway and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Visit this restored 1934 seafood-packing house to learn about the boom and decline of the region's commercial seafood industries. See the tools and gear used by local watermen to harvest seafood. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Experience, discover, learn and have fun at the state museum of archaeology. Seventy archaeological sites have been identified on the property reflecting over 12,000 years of human occupation. Visitor and exhibit center, hiking trails, Native American village, tours, educational programs, canoe and kayak launch, picnic area, pavilion rentals. Limited wheelchair access.
Directions: Route 4 south to Broomes Island Road (MD 264). Proceed approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Mackall Road (MD 265). Proceed 6 miles. Turn right into Park.

Built in the early 1880s, the school is the oldest standing one-room schoolhouse for African American students in Calvert County. Offering education for grades 1 through 7, it was built in the early 1880s and remained in use until 1934. Located on the grounds of Calvert Elementary School.
Directions: Route 4 south to Dares Beach Road. Calvert Elementary School is on the left.

One-Room Schoolhouse

Port Republic School No. 7 has been in this shady grove for more than 100 years. Authentically preserved, the schoolhouse is filled with memorabilia.
Directions:
Route 4 south to Broomes Island Road (MD 264). Proceed approximately .25 mile. Turn left at Christ Church. The Schoolhouse is located on the grounds of Christ Church.
Admission: Free.
Hours:
Sundays in May and June: 2 - 4 pm.
July 4, August 29, September 24: 2 - 4 pm.
