Cove Point Lighthouse

Tour history at the oldest continuously working lighthouse in Maryland. Built in 1828 by John Donahoo, the 40-foot brick tower is surmounted by an iron lantern containing a lens manufactured in Paris in 1897. Buildings at the Cove Point station include a 1901 fog signal building, a brick generator/fog signal building and a two-bedroom cottage. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Limited access for wheelchairs.
Directions:
Route 4 south. Take right lane exit just before the Thomas Johnson Bridge. Turn left at the stop sign. Proceed ½ block to the museum, where the Lighthouse tour departs.
Admission: Free.
Hours: June – August: daily 1 - 4 pm.
Weekends and holidays in May and September.

Constructed in 1883 at Drum Point to mark the entrance to the Patuxent River, this screwpile cottage-type light is one of only three remaining from 45 that once served the Chesapeake Bay at the beginning of the 20th century. Decommissioned in 1962, the lighthouse has been beautifully restored, complete with furnishings of the early 20th century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Route 4 south. Take right lane exit just before the Thomas Johnson Bridge. Turn left at the stop sign. Proceed ½ block to the museum, where the Lighthouse is located.

Tour is free with museum admission.

Seniors 55+ $6.
Children 5-12 $2.
Children under 5 free.
Hours:
Daily 10 am - 5 pm.
Closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
