Calvert Trash Systems Makes the Grade

One of America's "Best Managed Companies" Serves Southern Maryland With an Entrepreneurial Spirit

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- May 17, 2006 - “Most people don’t notice superior trash service, and that’s the way it should be,” says Robert McReynolds, General Manager of Calvert Trash Systems, Inc., “invisible to the customer.”

Calvert Trash Systems, a division of Republic Services, Inc., is locally managed and operated and serves the six-county region of Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, St. Mary’s and Howard. They have 70 employees and serve over 1,500 residents in Calvert County alone. And, most importantly, they pride themselves on their customer service and strong dedication to employees. “People enjoy doing business with a company they can trust and we strive to exceed our customers’ expectations. Our parent company, Republic Services, Inc. is the third-largest trash company in the United States – but we don’t aim to be the biggest; we aim to be the best.”

With residential and commercial customers, and processing and recycling centers, the company handles a staggering amount of waste everyday. For example, they collect and process thousands of tons of material per month. “All our trash collection and processing must comply with federal, state and local regulations – not to mention the fact that our trucks are regularly inspected and our drivers undergo background checks, extensive pre-employment screening and annual training to ensure the safety of the communities we serve,” says McReynolds.

The company also works closely with community officials to provide litter boxes for the many different special events and festivals. Recently, Republic Services, Inc. matched employee donations to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. In Southern Maryland, Calvert Trash was also instrumental in providing clean-up assistance following Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

As a final testament to the company’s solid reputation, Forbes recently named Republic Services, Inc. one of America’s Best Managed Companies. Recognized for their leadership, customer service and dedication to the highest industry standards, the employees of Republic Services and Calvert Trash Systems, Inc. were thrilled by the honor. “Earning this award from Forbes helps prove what we already know – that we are doing a great job. While every employee works hard and does their best every day, the recognition certainly helps to validate our efforts,” said McReynolds.
