Calvert County Board of County Commissioners to Celebrate Commerce in May with Business Appreciation Week

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- January 24, 2006 - It’s a good time to be in business in Calvert County and the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) wants to be sure the community knows it. The BOCC voted today to set aside May 8-12 for the first annual Business Appreciation Week featuring special events, workshops and personal visits with County business owners.

David Hale, president of the BOCC, says this event is long overdue. “We know that business owners are out there working hard in our communities, making relevant contributions to our quality of life and providing the goods and services our citizens need, and it is time they are recognized,” he said. “It’s not always easy being a business owner but we plan to spend the time during Business Appreciation Week thanking business owners for the good work they do and letting them know we appreciate that they are here and we applaud their successes.”

Linda Vassallo, director of the Department of Economic Development says that, while Business Appreciation Week is still several months away, her staff is already busy planning and organizing activities for the week-long celebration. “We really hope this week of festivities will allow the whole community to realize the impact that local businesses make in Calvert County and we want to be sure these companies are celebrated,” she said. “We are planning events that will appeal to business owners along the whole spectrum, from those who are just thinking about starting a business to those who have been in operation for many years. There will be many opportunities for people to interact and network with each other, including a special kick-off breakfast on Monday, May 8 and a wrap-up golf tournament at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course on Friday.”
