County to Offer Workshop on Media and Public Relations for Nonprofit Organizations

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- January 23, 2006 - Are you the person responsible for media and public relations at your nonprofit organization in Calvert County? Maybe because you are the only one who volunteered for the job? If so, perhaps you have felt lost at times and wonder how to get the word out about special events and fundraisers, the need for additional volunteers or the good work your group does.

The Calvert County Department of Economic Development will host a free workshop on Thursday, February 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Calvert Pines Senior Center in Prince Frederick to help demystify the elements of public outreach, media relations, marketing and publicity, geared specifically to nonprofit organizations. Learn how to pitch stories to the local media, how to submit press releases and distribute information to the public in a manner that is timely, inexpensive and interesting.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required in order to ensure adequate space and handout materials.
