Brighten your day with twinkling lights and gingerbread houses at the Calvert Marine Museum’s annual event Winter Lights: A Celebration of Chesapeake Bay Lighthouses, on Saturday, January 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Explore the wonder and lore of lighthouses with displays, lighthouse tours, a gingerbread lighthouse-making contest, and a chat with “keepers” from associations across Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey. For those who crave home-cooked, high-protein, stick-to-the-ribs foods during winter, satisfy your hunger by dining at local coffee shops, church suppers and restaurants featuring seasonal fare. Many Calvert County restaurants will host special dining events this month focusing on the splendor of food, including New Year’s Day brunches, wine dinners and food seminars. The Savor the Bay seminar marries an educational seminar about the Chesapeake Bay with a scrumptious seafood dinner. The event is held at Isaac’s Restaurant, Holiday Inn Select Solomons, on Monday, January 23, from 6:00-9:30 p.m. and is co-hosted by the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.
