Construction Underway at Patuxent Business Park

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- December 7, 2005 - Dirt is turning at Calvert County’s new Patuxent Business Park in Lusby, Md. Great Mills Construction, selected in October, 2005, as the general contractor for infrastructure development at the 700,000 square foot business campus, is well underway in clearing and grading the 92-acre property.

The total length of time to complete Phase I – which includes stormwater management, sewer and water lines, roads, curbs and gutters – is 236 days from the start date of October 17. Jim Shepherd, Business Development Specialist for the Calvert County Department of Economic Development and project manager for the Patuxent Business Park, says the completion date for Phase I construction is expected by June 9, 2006. “Great Mills is making excellent progress on the property,” he said. “With good weather this winter, we should have no problem completing the infrastructural improvements in time to begin construction of our first 20,000 square foot building in early spring.”

Patuxent Business Park is Southern Maryland’s first comprehensively planned business campus, designed to accommodate a wide range of innovative businesses. The project grew out of the County’s desire to recruit high technology organizations and build on Calvert’s ideal proximity to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station and the nation’s capital.

With significant assistance from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), cooperation from the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) and the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners, the County created a partnership that has, together, designed and developed the 700,000 square foot Park, clearly demonstrating why Calvert County is the place where quality of life and an entrepreneurial climate come together.
