July in Calvert County Will Have You Counting the Stars
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- June 17, 2005 -- Enjoy stargazing as you take in some of the most beautiful fireworks on the Bay in Calvert County, right in your own backyard. Chesapeake Beach and Solomons both feature spectacular fireworks displays on the waterfront. Bring your family to the spectacular fireworks display in Chesapeake Beach on July 3 where you can enjoy the beautiful colors reflecting across the Chesapeake Bay. Also, after a beautiful July summer day, enjoy an evening under the stars with some of your favorite stars. Comedian Bill Cosby will perform at the Calvert Marine Museum on Saturday, July 2 as part of the Ralph’s Dodge-Jeep and Cumberland & Erly, LLC Waterside 2005 series. Bill Cosby is, by any standard, one of the most influential entertainers in America today. With the ability to touch people’s lives, his humor often centers on the basic cornerstones of family life, providing insight into our roles as parents, children, family members, and men and women. The Charlie Daniels Band will appear in concert on July 10 at the newly constructed Mercantile Southern Maryland Bank Pavilion. This outdoor pavilion in St. Leonard will allow 3,000 fans to enjoy foot-stomping music under the stars. All net proceeds benefit the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. 7. You can count your lucky stars that the predators at Calvert Marine Museum’s Sharkfest are just for play. This annual event takes place on July 9 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Children of all ages will enjoy a day of activities with a shark theme. Celebrate one of the ocean’s most misunderstood creatures. Festivities include fossil identifications, fossil prep lab demonstrations, crafts, rowboat and canoe rides, games such as “pin the fin on the shark” and “catch a shark - fin toss,” painting of a shark mural, face painting, mini fin toss and feed the shark beanbag toss. For the serious stargazer, mark your calendar now: the Astronomy Club of Southern Maryland has teamed up with Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) in St. Leonard to share their knowledge of the stars. At sunset on August 6, everyone is invited to enjoy stargazing at JPPM and learn more about the celestial orbs that circle Southern Maryland.
