Calvert County Entrepreneur Trademarks the Bay
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- May 4, 2005 -- Local entrepreneur, Brian McMahon, has been a fan of the Chesapeake Bay for as long as he can remember. But it was a trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina that made him realize that regional pride was an idea he could capitalize on.
“I was in Duck on vacation and kept seeing cars and shops with ‘OBX’ stickers,” he said. “It took me a couple days but I finally realized that OBX stood for ‘Outer Banks’ – and the logo was everywhere on shirts, hats, bags and stickers.”
It was then that McMahon conceived and trademarked his C-Bay logo and line of products. He believes that the Bay’s nearly 11,000 miles of shoreline and diverse and enthusiastic tourist and boating industry provide an ample market base for his line of clothing, hats and stickers. “People just love the Chesapeake Bay,” said McMahon. “The C-Bay logo gives them an opportunity to show their pride in this unique watershed, whether they are a native, a boater or just a visitor.”
McMahon knows that his C-Bay logo will one day be as popular as that of OBX, helping to raise awareness of the Chesapeake Bay’s unique charm and appeal and offering shop owners an additional line of souvenir products.
