Calvert County Healthcare Partnership Hosts First Healthcare Careers Summit

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- March 7, 2005 -- The Calvert County Healthcare Partnership will host the first Healthcare Careers Summit on Thursday, March 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Classroom 2 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.

The Calvert County Healthcare Partnership was formed in spring 2004 to address the critical shortage of healthcare workers in the County. Three initiatives were developed to support this effort: (1) increase community awareness; (2) share recruitment and retention resources with healthcare providers throughout the County; and (3) create healthcare career opportunities for County residents and students. Participating Partnership organizations include members of Calvert Memorial Hospital, the College of Southern Maryland, Calvert County Nursing Center, Calvert County Public Schools, Calvert County Fire & Rescue, Calvert Hospice, the Calvert County Department of Economic Development and a variety of medical, radiology and dental groups throughout the County.

The theme for the Healthcare Careers Summit is “Building the Bridge” and will focus on accomplishments that have been made over the past year as well as goals and objectives for the future. Local and state speakers will share ideas and initiatives that can be used to recruit and retain talented healthcare workers as well as encourage others to enter healthcare fields.

The Summit is free and open to the public, but pre-registration by March 11 is required. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. To register or receive additional information about healthcare career opportunities in Calvert County, contact Janet Boarman at Calvert Memorial Hospital at 410.414.4742 or via e-mail at jboarman@cmhlink.org.
