Knit-In and Health Fair at the Calvert Country Market

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- February 11, 2005 -- The Calvert County, Maryland Department of Economic Development announced today that the Calvert Country Market in the Prince Frederick Shopping Center will host a Knit-In and Health Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19.

Event organizer and owner of Ch’Naca Farm & Fiberworks, Nancy Donley said the event is intended to raise public awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer, while allowing people an opportunity to create lap blankets and chemo caps for County residents undergoing cancer treatment at Calvert Memorial Hospital’s Infusion Therapy Center. “Knitting or crocheting a brightly colored cap for someone who has lost their hair due to chemotherapy is a wonderful act of kindness that anyone can do,” said Donley.

In addition to the knit-in, exhibits and displays, there will be raffles of Calvert Country Market products, the proceeds of which will benefit the Calvert County Cancer Support Group. Plus, exhibitors will be on hand from the following organizations to answer your questions and disseminate information on their services: Calvert Hospice Center, Calvert Memorial Hospital’s “Keep Well Program,” Calvert Memorial Hospital’s Infusion Therapy Center and the MidAtlantic Association of Community Health Centers.

Calvert Country Market, located in the Prince Frederick Shopping Center, 98 S. Solomons Island Road, in Prince Frederick, Maryland, offers locally grown fresh produce, baked goods, honey, pies, certified organic products and local crafts. Additionally, CCM features a bakery, seafood, butcher, green grocer, delicatessen, yarn, ceramics, wood crafts, polymer clay supplies, antiques shop, fine jewelry, candies, essential oils and shea butter and a gourd shop.
