It's February In Calvert County Maryland - And Love is in the Air

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- January 22, 2005 -- Southern Maryland may be deep in the heart of winter, but activities abound this month to keep you busy and warm your heart. With Valentine’s Day as the centerpiece of February, it’s no wonder that love is the focus of our activities.

If a wedding is in your future, the 18th Annual Bridal Showcase is a must-do on February 6, 12:30 – 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Select in Solomons. What better way to spend Super Bowl Sunday than at the region’s premier bridal show? See the latest in bridal fashions and gather ideas and tips from the area’s top wedding designers. Take this opportunity to talk with vendors about the current trends in invitations, flower arrangements, catering, hall rentals, gowns, receptions, guest gifts, honeymoon packages and more. With door prizes and a fashion show, you won’t want to miss this occasion and get a head start on planning your special day.

Mothers and fathers can treat their sons and daughters to a special Valentine’s Evening Out at the Southern Community Center in Lusby. The annual Mother/Son Evening Out is scheduled for February 10, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Fathers and daughters have their evening on February 11, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Activities, refreshments and a chance to spend a memorable evening with your favorite young lady or little man, are sure to make these evenings a hit.

For those seeking a truly romantic dining experience, why not take your sweetheart to one of Calvert County’s waterfront restaurants? Both the Rod “N” Reel in Chesapeake Beach and the Holiday Inn Select in Solomons will offer special candlelit dinners on Valentine’s Day, February 14. With special menus and a truly memorable Calvert County dining experience, reservations are sure to go quickly; so call early to guarantee your spot.

If you are the kind-hearted and generous type, maybe some charity work is what you need this month. The Calvert Country Market will host their semi-annual winter knit-in on Saturday, February 19, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., to benefit local cancer patients. Bring your own needles and yarn or purchase supplies at a special discount from Ch’Naca Farm & Fiberworks. All crocheted or knitted chemo caps and lap blankets will be donated to Calvert Memorial Hospital’s Infusion Therapy Center and proceeds from a Country Market raffle will benefit the Calvert County Cancer Support Group.

For those whose first love is food – and plenty of it – mark your calendars for the annual Taste of Solomons on February 26, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Celebrate the gustatory bounty of the Chesapeake Bay and enjoy delicious samples at participating restaurants all around Solomons. Tickets are required but can be purchased in advance or on site. A free shuttle service will travel from the parking area across from Calvert Marine Museum and deliver the food lovers to each participating restaurant.

Lastly, there are those whose first (and only) love is fishing. For those die-hard sport fishing fanatics, the 17th Annual Solomons Sport Fishing Show & Seminar, February 26-27, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., is just for you. Taking place at the Calvert County Fairgrounds in Barstow, this is the best regional sport fishing show and seminar in Maryland featuring seminars on Chesapeake Bay species and tactics and equipment. Learn tricks of the trade from the Solomons Charter Captains’ Association as experienced mates lead seminars and answer all your fishing questions from knots and rigging to trolling and the best tackle choices for catching the Bay’s big ones.
