Calvert County, Maryland Announces 87-Unit All Suites Hotel by Marriott and New Office Facility to Locate in Prince Frederick

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- September 10, 2004 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development announced today that an 87-room, four-story, SpringHill Suites by Marriott will locate at the Westlake North development in Prince Frederick. The 52,000 square foot national hotel chain will offer a boardroom for meetings, an 1,800 square foot meeting room capable of handling up to 100 people, indoor pool, exercise room and continental breakfast with each stay. Each tastefully appointed room will feature a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave and separate living and sleeping areas.

The groundbreaking for this project is expected to take place in October 2004 and construction will be completed in the summer of 2005. Upon completion, the hotel will employ 15 people full-time and four part-time. During the construction phase, owner/developer Jerry Caulfield said that preference will be given to local general contractors and subcontractors to participate in completing the work. “The dynamic growth and strategic location of Calvert County is what attracted us to this region in the first place,” said Caulfield. “I look forward to a very successful endeavor and hope to make a positive impact on Calvert County’s economy.”

In addition, the Westlake development will also receive a three-story office facility totaling 7,644 square feet. There are two additional lots under contract with an amusement-type feature. Land sales and development of this project was coordinated by Noel Sampson of Howlin Realty’s commercial division.
