Calvert County To Bury 350th Anniversary Time Capsule
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- July 06, 2004 -- The Calvert County, Maryland Department of Economic Development announces the burial of a time capsule filled with County memorabilia on July 13, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. on the grounds of the Calvert County Courthouse on Main Street in Prince Frederick. The 12 x 36 inch capsule will be filled and sealed on July 12, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Planning & Zoning Conference Room in the County Services Plaza at 150 Main Street and the public is invited to participate in both events.
The capsule will remain sealed and buried until the County’s 450th anniversary, in the year 2104. Some of the items to be enclosed in the capsule include Chesapeake Bay water samples; an issue of each local newspaper; 350th anniversary proclamations from the Governor, Maryland State Senate and the Maryland House of Representatives; tobacco seeds and leaves; a Calvert County flag; photographs; the Maryland state quarter; and a letter written by the Board of County Commissioners to the citizens of Calvert County in 2104.
Organized and sponsored by the Calvert County 350th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and coordinated by Jenny Plummer-Welker, the time capsule burial is part of a year-long program of events and festivities celebrating the founding of the County 350 years ago, on July 3, 1654.
