2004 Calvert County Farm Tour Announced

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- June 21, 2004 -- The Calvert County, Maryland Department of Economic Development announced today that the Calvert County Agriculture Commission would conduct their annual Calvert County Farm Tour on Sunday, July 18 from 1-5p.m. Admission is free.

Come visit a working farm on this special day when historic White Cliff Farm opens its doors so visitors can get a closer look at how various agricultural products are produced. This event, with its wagon tours and farm animals, is designed for family fun and educational awareness. Featuring refreshments, produce sales, entertainment, door prizes and agriculture related exhibits.

White Cliff Farm, owned by Wilson Freeland, a 4th generation farmer, has been in the family since the early 1930’s. Located along the Chesapeake Bay, the farm’s history dates to the 1700’s and has one of the largest collections of historical barns and outbuildings in the County. Today, fossils and colonial and Native American artifacts are still found on the property. Don’t miss your chance to visit this scenic historical farm and celebrate 350 years of agriculture in Calvert County!

Due to parking restraints, participants are required to park at Calvert Elementary School (Directions: From Route 4, go east on Dares Beach Road (Route 402) for approximately 1 ½ miles to Calvert Elementary School on the left). County shuttle buses will be provided to transport visitors to White Cliff Farm.

The 2004 Farm Tour is coordinated by the Calvert County Department of Economic Development and the Calvert County Agriculture Commission. The Agriculture Commission conducts the Farm Tour to educate Calvert residents about traditional farming and to provide the public with an opportunity to interact with the farming community.
