Calvert County's 2003 "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" Representative Announced

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- October 08, 2003 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development is pleased to announce that Alice Caroline Hall of Lusby has been selected as Calvert County's 2003 Representative for the 17th annual "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" Volunteer Award. Ms. Hall, along with all of this year's nominees, were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners during their October 7th meeting.

Alice Caroline Hall has always had the desire to improve the quality of life for the residents of Calvert County. She was responsible for the establishment of the annual Baccalaureate Service for Patuxent High School. She has served as coordinator of Ecumenical Worship for SMILE Ecumenical Ministries since 1991. Throughout her years she has been appointed to the Governor's Council for Children and Youth, the Advisory Board of the Abused Persons Program, the Teen Pregnancy Council, the Mental Health Advisory Commission and the Citizen's Advisory Council to the Board of County Commissioners. In 1976 Alice initiated the formation of a local Commission for Women. In 1984 Ms. Hall was appointed to the Maryland Commission for Women. She also served on the MD Women's History Committee and presented action for a countywide observance of MD Women's History Month in public schools.

"A total of 11 people were nominated this year in Calvert County," stated Herman Schieke, Tourism Specialist with the Calvert County Department of Economic Development. "Ms. Hall was chosen by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from the local media along with last year's recipient of the award. The judging process was overseen by a member of Calvert County's Tourism Advisory Committee. We extend congratulations to Alice Hall and all of the 2003 nominees for their commitment to the County," Mr. Schieke added. The following volunteers were nominated for this year's award:
