Calvert County's "Maryland Most Beautiful People"Nominations Now Being Accepted for 16th Annual Volunteer Awards

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- April 30, 2002 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Governor’s Office, announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 16th annual "Maryland’s Most Beautiful People" Volunteer Awards. This year’s theme is "The Power of One," which celebrates the tremendous impact that one volunteer can have on an organization or group.

We are acknowledging the unsung heroes who help make Calvert County better through volunteerism and are looking for that special "Beautiful" person to represent our County at the Statewide ceremony. The volunteer might be a tour guide at a museum or historic landmark; the person who organizes a local fair, festival or parade; or the person committed to making a difference by giving generously of their time to hospices, hospitals, homeless, seniors, youth and other social service agencies. Please help us find these special volunteers.

Nomination forms are available at any County Library, the County Courthouse, or by calling the Department of Economic Development at (410) 535-4583 or (301) 855-1880. Completed nomination forms should be returned to "Maryland You Are Beautiful", c/o Sandy Bentley, Department of Economic Development, Courthouse, Prince Frederick, Maryland 20678. Deadline for receipt of nomination forms is August 13, 2002.

All nominees will be honored at a local awards ceremony with the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, October 1. One "special" nominee will be chosen to represent Calvert County at the Governor’s Reception and Awards Ceremony in Annapolis on Wednesday, November 13.
