Calvert County's 2001 Representative for "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" Volunteer Award Announced

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- September 12, 2001 -- Ruth N. Reid has been selected as Calvert County's 2001 Representative for the 15th annual "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" Volunteer Award. Mrs. Reid, along with all of this year's candidates, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners at their weekly meeting.

Ruth N. Reid, a resident of Huntingtown, is a full time volunteer in Calvert County. Her volunteerism encompasses a seven-day volunteer workweek and includes organizations that range from health to education. Mrs. Reid serves as secretary of the local unit of the American Cancer Society as well as the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Calvert County Nursing Center. She is also the coordinator for the Huntingtown Learning Center and is an active member of the Plum Point United Methodist Church. She participates in a prison ministry program at the local detention facility and is a very active member of the Calvert County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

"A total of thirty people and/or organizations were nominated this year in Calvert County", stated Herman Schieke, Tourism Specialist with the Calvert County Department of Economic Development. "Mrs. Reid was chosen by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from the local media along with a past recipient of the award. The judging process was overseen by members of Calvert County's Tourism Advisory Committee. Calvert County is very fortunate to have so many volunteers willing to give so generously of themselves. It's what makes this County such a wonderful place to live and visit! We congratulate Mrs. Reid and thank the following nominees for their dedication to the County" Mr. Schieke added.
