Calvert County Economic Development Receives Record Internet Hits

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- July 11, 2001 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development announced today that during June 2001, the Department received a record 208,569 "hits" on their Internet site. This is an increase of 59.6 percent (or 77,872 new hits) over the same reporting period last year.

Since January 2001, the Department has received 927,590 "hits". The top five most visited areas include the classifieds job search, a free, on-line service for County businesses; the Calvert County Visitors guide, a complete listing of County attractions and related sites; the business search page, a free advertising/listing service for all County businesses; Outdoor Activities, a listing of recreational activities for the outdoor enthusiast; and the front page of the site. The site also receives a variety of international interest, with the largest representation of visitors from Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.

Calvert County is the only County in the Greater Washington Region to provide a free, on-line employment classifieds service designed solely to assist County businesses in workforce recruitment. Additionally, Calvert is the only County to also provide free business listings for County-based businesses and free commercial real estate listings.

In an effort to provide the most current information, Economic Development staff continuously monitors and updates the web site to keep visitors informed of current activities, events and news, and to determine what information is most useful to customers.
