Calvert County EDA Reports A Record Year in 1998

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- December 15, 1998 -- The Calvert County Economic Development Authority (EDA) reports that since January 1998 approximately $11 million dollars in new investment and 285 new jobs have been committed to the Calvert County Industrial Park, Prince Frederick.

During 1998, the EDA contracted three "Free Land Incentive" projects and six conventional projects. In January 1998, there were 15 lots (45 acres) available for sale with an additional 14-15 acres of potentially available residual land. According to the EDA, some of the land had been non-productive for over 20 years. The Industrial Park averaged less than 4.5 acres of land absorbed annually since creation. The absorption pace had declined to 2.7168 acres per year between 1992 and 1997. However, during 1998, 10.83 acres were committed to "Free Land" projects and 15.85 acres to conventional projects, absorbing more than half of the land available in the Park. Less than 25 acres (7 lots) now remain available for sale.
