Calvert County EDA Announces Second Recipient of Free Land Incentive Program
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- July 14, 1998 -- The Calvert County Economic Development Authority (EDA) announced today that Precision Design, Inc. will relocate to the Calvert County Industrial Park as the second recipient of the EDA's Free Land Incentive Program.
Precision Design is a high-tech manufacturing firm specializing in the design and manufacturing of prototype, research and development, and short run production parts for the commercial, industrial and department of defense industries. The company has been in operation for 29 years.
"The Free Land Program provides an excellent opportunity for us," said Gary Benton, President, Precision Design. "We are currently looking to expand operations. The Free Land Program helped give us the flexibility to do so."
As part of their contract with the EDA, Precision Design will be required to begin construction of a 15-18,000 square foot facility within 18 months, complete construction and be physically on site within 30 months. Additionally, Precision will be required to maintain a base employment of at least 8 individuals. Precision design will be located on lot 31 at the Industrial Park. The property is valued at $186,772.50.
The Free Land Incentive Program was developed by the EDA to attract technology firms to Calvert County, to stimulate economic activity, increase employment opportunities for Calvert's citizens, and introduce the County's target industries to an alternative business location in the Greater Washington Region. To qualify for the Free Land Incentive Program, companies must demonstrate that they fall within the County's target market industries, meet the predetermined set of criteria and match one of the Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC) identified as a target market industry by Calvert County.
The Calvert County Industrial Park consists of 226 acres divided into 41 lots. The park is the largest full-scale industrial park in the County, is designated as one of 13 Maryland Enterprise Zones in the State, and is the only Enterprise Zone in Southern Maryland. The average lot size is 2.5 acres. The Park is located five miles west of Prince Frederick and 32 miles from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
