Calvert County Agriculture Commission to Conduct 1998 Calvert County Farm Tour
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- July 07, 1998 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development announced today that on July 19, 1998, the Calvert County Agriculture Commission will conduct the 1998 Calvert County Farm Tour. Five farms in Calvert County will open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Farms on the tour include: Mead's Lane Farm, Owings; Spider Hall Farm, Prince Frederick; Calvert Homestead, Prince Frederick; Willow Oak Farm, Huntingtown; and Riverview Farm, St. Leonard.
Spend a day in Calvert County touring a variety of farms and learning more about Calvert's traditional agricultural community. Visitors can purchase fruits, vegetables, baked good, dried flowers, perennials and more. Parking is available and entertainment will be provided at each farm at various times throughout the day. No pets are allowed except seeing eye dogs.
During 1997, the Calvert County Agriculture Commission received a $7,245 grant from the State of Maryland to promote Agriculture in Calvert County and encourage a better understanding of the farming community among County residents.
The 1998 Farm Tour is coordinated by the Calvert County Department of Economic Development and the Calvert County Agricultural Commission. The Agriculture Commission is conducting the Farm Tour in an effort to introduce newcomers to Calvert to a segment of the traditional farming community they might not otherwise have the opportunity to interact with.
