Manufacturing Tax Notice

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- September 17, 1997 -- The Department of Economic Development announced today that the exemption for the manufacturing personal property tax, which took effect on July 1, 1997, is applicable for fiscal years beginning after June 30, 1997. Tax bills recently received are for last year and are payable on the posted dates.

Last April, the County Commissioners passed Ordinance 15-97 that eliminated the personal property tax on equipment used in manufacturing in Calvert County. This ordinance was based on concerns expressed by Calvert's business community and recommendations made by the Economic Development Commission last year.

Businesses will receive 1998 Personal Property Returns early next year. To take advantage of the manufacturing and personal property tax elimination, enter "exempt" on line 7 of the 1998 Personal Property Return; Personal Property Returns are due April 15, 1998. For more information and help in determining what is eligible, please call the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation, Personal Property Division, 410/767-1170 or Jim Shepherd at the Calvert County Department of Economic Development, 410/535-4583, e-mail cced@co.cal.md.us.
