Business Resources Seminar Offered to Calvert County Businesses
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., -- September 11, 1997 -- The Calvert County Department of Economic Development, in cooperation with the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, announced today that they will hold a business resource seminar at the North East Community Center in Chesapeake Beach for Thursday, October 23, 1997, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The program is offered as a service to Calvert County small businesses and is designed to provide an opportunity to learn about resources and assistance that is currently available.
The seminar brings together relevant agencies that strive to help rather than regulate small business. The half-day agenda is designed to accommodate the schedules of Calvert's small businesses. Approximately seven speakers will introduce 20-minute presentations on how their agencies can provide assistance. Following the final presentation, seminar attendees will have the opportunity to network with panel members and talk one-on-one with the representatives who administer the small business programs.
Representatives from the Business Administration, the Small Business Development Center, the Center for Business and Industry and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development will be available to individually discuss relevant programs. The Neighborhood Business Development Program, the Calvert County Economic Development Loan Fund, financing programs, management assistance and help navigating through the ‘red tape' at the state level will be among the topics covered during the morning conference.
"We are particularly interested in setting up a group that will introduce County businesses to programs that are available to help rather than regulate," said Jim Shepherd, Calvert County's Business Development Specialist. "So often small businesses get caught up in the ‘red tape' and don't know where to go for assistance. We hope that County businesses take advantage of this opportunity to talk with representatives that have their interests in mind."
There is no fee for the seminar, but those interested are asked to register by October 20, 1997. Refreshments will be provided. To register or obtain further information, please contact Jim Shepherd at the Calvert County Department of Economic Development, 410-535-4583 or 301-855-1880, e-mail cced@co.cal.md.us.
